Not since the 1960’s has the word Kuba been on so many lips.
This time the people are talking about Jakob Blaszczkowski
blasting the ball like a missile over an empty goal.
The first half of the Bundeliga season is over, and it is time to reflect over
what has happened so far. In the previous blogpost I talked about the BVB’s
chances of winning the title. While Bundesliga-lovers have been talking about
the incredible season Dortmund have had so far this season, the international
media has gone viral over the Kuba’s miss on an empty goal in the game
If you just woke up from a coma, here is the footage which shows you what I am talking about.
While the player who has been voted to be the best Polish footballer in 2008
and the best player of Borussia Dortmund in january 2009 hopefully can smile
about this miss now, I was thinking about if it was possible to miss even more
clear cut chances.
Turns out, it does. So enjoy these fantastic YouTube-clips.
The world cup of 2022 will be held in Qatar, a nation that hasn’t produced any
great footballers so far. In this clip you can see Fahad Khalfan empty goal
from less then a yard away.
Impressive. This bodes well for Qatar’s opponents in 2022. Qatar ended up losing this game 1-0.
While Kuba’s miss didn’t have any major consequences(Dortmund won the
game 2-1 in the end), the next miss did. During this summer’s world cup in
South Africa Nigeria were trailing 2-1 to South Korea. The entire stadium
thought that the super eagles would equalise in the 66 minute when Yakubu
recieved the ball in front of en empty goal. Here is what happened.
Needless to say, Nigeria ended up loosing 2-1 to South Korea.
Well, the next miss went viral on the Internet last year. In this video you will
see Dinamo Zagreb’s Ilija Sivonjic miss the goal from a mere 7,5 cm.
In spite of this miss, did Dinamo manage to equalize in the end. The game ended 1-1.
Keen to see more chances missed? Here is a compilation of 20 fairly unmissable
Did I forget to include any of the missed chances you think are worse then
Kuba’s miss? Well, don’t hesitate and leave a comment. If not, leave a
comment as well. I do appreciate any feedback I can get.
